October 14, 2010 Applaud his art or arrest him?
It’s heart-stopping, with a wonderful ending you can guess at it if you understand the French title. Claude Lelouch, the filmmaker, was arrested when this was shown but later released without charge. The IMDB page on the film has this and other fascinating trivia (like his average speed). His film career didn’t start promisingly. One [...]

September 30, 2010 Winter commute: Are warm toes the key?
Like this guy, I’m trying to figure out how to do the winter commute as the temperature drops. I prefer to avoid spending crazy money on high tech mountain gear.

August 4, 2010 Testing a new 98¢ camera mount on my bike
To better communicate how wonderful Dayton’s biking infrastructure is, I decided to fiddle with the idea of mounting a video camera on my bike to capture scenes from my rides. I’m not sure yet what I think of the initial results. As a quick internet search will show, it’s not hard to come up with [...]

May 21, 2010 From the director’s outtake of Ken Mosher’s Downtown Dayton Plan video
In all seriousness, I read the report of the fire in this morning’s DDN, and all I can say is, Wow, folks are on top of this. Love this quote from the fire chief, ready to kick ass and take names: “I’ve got the best fire investigators in the nation. If there is something here, [...]

May 20, 2010 Urban Nights 2010
Had a great time at Urban Nights Friday night. Teresa, Max, Gus & I were part of the early crowd. If your intersection was blocked by cops Friday night, that was for Max and me. We rode with a pack of 250 cyclists on a 4-mile Urban Bikes @ Urban Nights ride from Fifth Third [...]

May 9, 2010 Saturday night with the Cincinnati Rollergirls
Damn roller derby is a fun time. Roller derby? Yes, roller derby. A college friend of mine is one of the Cincinnati Rollergirls. Teresa and I made it to a bout last year & finally got back to another last night. We’ll be back again later this month, and we’re not alone. They’re drawing 3,500 [...]

January 29, 2010 Ellipticals, samba and o jeito
I had to switch to my old standby, a baile funk mix by a French DJ named Neon Sea. Starts loud and goes through everything from Bonde do Tigrao and Bonde do Role (you’ll recognize the samples) to the Black-Eyed Peas and the theme to Grease, until settling down at the close with some Ray Charles. Very smooth.
